Small Cedar Boxes

I've got cedar boxes on the brain for some reason, so I decided to make a batch of smaller ones. I had a piece of reclaimed cedar that was holding up a porch for over 100 years. Back in the day they just set the post in the ground and eventually the bottom of the post rotted away and had to be replaced. There’s some good-looking grain for the tops. Glad I didn't hit the screw that used to be there, that would have been expensive. I’m excited to see how they turn out. These will be up for sale when they are finished.

Two Little Cedar Boxes

I was sorting through some Bermuda cedar logs because everyone keeps asking me if I ever make anything out of cedar. Just an fyi, people don't realize how hard it is to acquire this stuff. People have it tucked away but don't want to part with it. It usually goes something like, I have a friend who has some. Do they want to sell it? Let me check... nope. So, when I do find a piece, I spend some time thinking about what to make. You mill it up, see what you end up with, then try to design something and minimize the waste. So back to the Cedar logs. I found a couple that would fit on my saw that seemed like they would cooperate so I might avoid another near-death experience. As careful as I think I am, my table saw tries to maim on a regular basis. Who thought, "let's make these saws crotch height," was a good idea? We have so many laughs working together.  Ok, back to the logs, everything went as planned and I ended up with about a dozen small boards. Then there wa
